Year 12 Sport and Exercise Science - Group Fitness: Referencing

Referencing Guide

Why Reference?

Academic Writing

At school you will be asked to write in many different styles – one of these is Academic writing.

Academic writing isn’t just your own ideas and experience. It uses ideas and research from other people and sources such as books, newspapers, websites, interviews, videos and many more.

Whenever we use someone else’s writing and ideas we need to give them credit. We do this by creating a Reference List of all the books, websites and other sources we used.

There are a number of different referencing styles that can be used in academic writing -  the specific style that we use at Dio is called APA referencing.
